The cable is an rj 50 not an rj 45 and converts the APC data output to USB. 10 pin RJ50, 10P10C ethernet connector,not 8 pin RJ45 connector. This is not a Ethernet cable.While the one end of the plug is similar to Ethernet, it's not the same. It's really a USB cable with a similar plug to Ethernet that plugs into a APC USB device.

PowerChute which came with the UPS. I also have a separate APC UPS that talks to a Netgear NAS and provides status and shutdown info to the NAS. Download and use APC PowerChute software http://www.apc.com/us/en/tools/download/ This cable is used only so that the APC Battery Backup can communicate with the PC for battery status and power outages (so that it safely shutdown the PC)
